In May 2019 I visited Northern Spain. I travelled from Barcelona in the east to Santiago de Compostela in the west. If you have heard of the Camino pilgrimage walks, you will have heard of Santiago de Compostela. This is the end point for all walkers and where the Church of St James is. A symbol along the walk is the shell.

One day after my return from Spain, I was looking for “tiles” (the 3.5″ x 3.5″ paper that we tangle on) when I found some that I had already pre-strung. The string* that I had created some time back was two circles, one big and one smaller. I decided to use that pre-strung tile and hey presto, the end result was a shell. I immediately thought of the Compostela shell and till today, I am pleased with the unexpected find of the string and the unexpected outcome.
*About the Zentangle “string” – think of it as something like divisions on the tile or art paper, and in each division, a tangle (pattern) could be drawn.
